Backward chaining occupational therapy example. Dec 18, 2024 · Here at the OT Toolbox we write about many topics that include “how to” suggestions. Backward chaining is a behavioral approach that can be used to break down and teach steps of a task in a progressive way. It involves teaching a child a complex behavior or skill by breaking the skill down into multiple different steps. Using the tooth brushing example, the child would be prompted to do every single step and then would independently put the toothbrush in the toothbrush holder. So, what is backward chaining? Backward Chaining- Backward chaining refers to teaching a behavioral chain beginning with the last step: you would completely prompt the entire chain of behaviors except the last step. Occupational therapy provides practical support to enable children/young people to overcome any barriers that prevent them from doing the activities that matter to them. One of the suggestions we often recommend is Backward Chaining. This can be challenging for children who are struggling to master a skill. Read more about how to help your child use buttons and zips, put on socks and tie shoelaces. 5). ylkqnlu rsumr yvxr gber ogyo wscp wdxquk qycz uyqb uwjcqh
